Implant Risks
Breast implants carry medical and psychological risks. Writers should use these risks to add tension, vulnerability, and realism to erotic fiction.
Medical Risks
- Infection
- Rupture or leakage
- Capsular contracture (scar tissue hardening)
- Changes in sensation (especially nipples)
- Need for replacement or revision surgery
Additional Medical Risks
- Capsular Contracture: Progressive tightening of capsule (Baker I–IV) (see capsular_contracture).
- Malposition: Lateral drift, bottoming out, rotation (anatomic implant), high riding early.
- Symmastia: Loss of cleavage from over-dissection (see symmastia).
- BIA-ALCL: Rare lymphoma linked to some textured implants (late seroma, swelling) (see bia_alcl).
- Seroma / Hematoma: Fluid or blood accumulation; may predispose to contracture or infection.
- Animation Deformity: Distortion with pectoral muscle contraction in submuscular placements.
- Rippling / Visibility: Thin soft-tissue coverage, saline or underfilled implants, weight loss.
- Breast Implant Illness (BII): Patient-reported systemic symptoms (fatigue, joint pain, cognitive fog); etiology uncertain; narrative tool for tension and identity conflict.
Psychological Risks
- Anxiety about appearance or health
- Impact on self-image (self_image)
- Body confidence (body_confidence)
- Sexuality (horniness)
Surveillance & Imaging
- MRI or high-resolution ultrasound for silent silicone rupture at guideline intervals.
- Late swelling warrants evaluation for seroma and CD30 testing (rule out bia_alcl).
- Mammography requires implant displacement views; note implants can obscure some tissue.
Writing Tips
- Use risk to create emotional tension: fear, anticipation, relief.
- Show how risk affects sexual experience, confidence, and relationships.
- Link to taboo (taboo) and cultural ideals (cultural_ideals).
- Use risk discovery (palpated firmness, asymmetry, late swelling) as plot catalyst.
- Layer internal monologue: pride vs fear of complication.
- Show partner noticing subtle physical changes (reduced bounce, altered contour).
Example
"She worried about the tightness in her chest, the possibility of rupture always in the back of her mind. But when he touched her, the fear faded—replaced by pleasure, pride, and a sense of daring."
Commentary: Tension (worry, possibility of rupture), emotional shift (fear to pleasure), and partner interaction make the scene realistic and erotic.
