Gland of Moll
The gland of Moll is a type of modified sweat gland located at the margin of the eyelid, near the base of the eyelashes. It is also known as a ciliary gland.
Structure & Function
- Apocrine sweat gland
- Secretes a lipid-rich fluid that contributes to the tear film
- Located adjacent to the glands of Zeis and Meibomian glands
Clinical Significance
- Can become infected, leading to a stye (external hordeolum)
- Blockage or dysfunction may contribute to eyelid inflammation
