Clitoral Hood

The clitoral hood is a fold of skin that covers and protects the glans of the clitoris. It is analogous to the foreskin of the penis and plays a role in sexual sensitivity and pleasure. The hood can be retracted during arousal, exposing the glans to direct stimulation.

Anatomy

  • Located at the top of the vulva, above the urethra.
  • Composed of skin and mucous membrane.

Function

  • Protects the sensitive glans from friction and injury.
