Electrolysis

Electrolysis

Electrolysis (electrology) is a permanent hair removal method in which a fine probe is inserted into the hair follicle and electrical current destroys the germinative cells. It can treat all hair colours and skin types when performed correctly.

Types

  • Galvanic: chemical destruction via a small DC current.
  • Thermolysis (shortwave): heat-based destruction.
  • Blend: combination of galvanic and thermolysis.

Pros and cons

  • Advantages: potentially permanent, works on fine or light hair, suitable for small areas.
  • Disadvantages: time-consuming (each follicle treated), can be painful, risk of scarring or pigment changes if performed poorly.

Writing tips

  • Electrolysis lends itself to meticulous, clinical imagery; use it for scenes about commitment to a body project or anxious, quiet beauty routines.

Example

"She sat through the slow, clinical rhythm of the electrologist’s probe, each pinprick a small, private expenditure toward a future without the razor."
