Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS)

PCOS is a common hormonal disorder affecting women of reproductive age. It is characterised by irregular menstrual cycles, excess androgen production, and polycystic ovaries.

Differential diagnosis: Menstrual irregularity is common in the first 1–2 years after menarche due to anovulatory cycles; PCOS consideration typically requires persistence of irregular cycles (>2 years post menarche) plus clinical/biochemical hyperandrogenism. See puberty.
