Neuroma
A neuroma is a benign growth or thickening of nerve tissue that can develop after surgical procedures such as gluteoplasty, lipectomy, or liposuction. Neuromas may form at the site of nerve injury or irritation, leading to symptoms such as pain, tingling, numbness, or hypersensitivity in the affected area.
Causes
- Direct trauma to nerves during surgery
- Chronic irritation or inflammation
- Scar tissue formation around nerves
Symptoms
- Localized pain or tenderness
- Tingling, numbness, or "pins and needles" sensation
- Hypersensitivity to touch or pressure
- Occasionally, burning or shooting pain
Management
- Conservative treatment: physical therapy, massage, desensitization techniques
- Medications: pain relievers, anti-inflammatories, or nerve pain medications
- In severe cases, surgical removal or revision may be necessary
Prevention
- Careful surgical technique to avoid nerve injury
- Early intervention if symptoms develop
Writing Tips
- Use neuroma as a source of ongoing discomfort or emotional challenge in recovery narratives
- Describe the impact on daily life, intimacy, or self-image: "A sudden jolt of pain shot through her hip whenever she sat, a lingering reminder of the surgery."
